Houston YouTuber dating consultant charged with theft in real estate scheme

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A YouTube dating coach and consultant is accused of a real estate investment scam.
Mikki Fox, also known as Michaela Pink, is charged with theft in Harris County. The county district attorney's office has identified six other possible victims.
Fox has a large following on YouTube, where she offers advice on makeup and dating. A woman, who wished to be identified as Marie, came across Fox on YouTube. She told ABC13 she was first interested in Fox's relationship advice.
"Advice on dating, that sort of thing. And my second consultation was just regarding real estate, so she did seem trustworthy," Marie said. "At the time, I was going through a bad situation and I had no support system and she preyed on that."

Study examines how sleep, stress, age, and obesity could impact the immune response to COVID vaccine

SAN FRANCISCO -- It's possible the amount of sleep you're getting and the stress you're under could impact your COVID vaccine, meaning the strength and durability of the vaccine may have more to do with you, your body, and your lifestyle than you expected.
UCSF professor of psychiatry, Elissa Epel, and a team of researchers are recruiting for a study to examine how stress, age, and sleep, affect the immune response with the COVID vaccine.
"What we know from the flu vaccine is that stress, particularly bereavement stress, caregiving stress, really major chronic stress, dampens the immune response," said Epel, who is working to find out if that holds true for the COVID vaccines.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- PepperLou Gifts started as a dream by Valerie Cassady and her daughter Ellie.
They always wanted to open their own store, but it wasn't until Valerie needed a space for her interior decorating business, that PepperLou Gifts was born.
Valerie wanted to open the Memorial-area store to give Ellie a better future after she graduated high school. Valerie said, "As a young adult with special needs, there aren't a lot of programs out there to make them feel a part of something big. And so we started PepperLou for Ellie."

Hulu's 'GameStopped' documentary details how at-home investors upended Wall Street

Her tale of boom and bust begins with a little boy.
"It's interesting to watch stocks grow and watch them fall," said Jaydyn Carr, a fifth grader who made a 5,000% profit on stock in the video game retailer GameStop.
His mother bought him the stock as a Kwanzaa present before it rose in price so dramatically.
"One of the biggest things you're going see here is how everybody got swept up in this," Jarvis said.
They were swept up in the big increase that Wall Street hedge funds were betting would fall. In the parlance of the financial world, they were short selling GameStop.

CDC guidelines: Cheat sheet on what you can do after getting the COVID-19 vaccine

CDC guidelines tell you what you can and can't do after getting the COVID-19 vaccine and being fully vaccinated. You can visit with others who are vaccinated indoors, and not wear a mask while doing it. Here's a cheat sheet with all the other new rules.

Reopen Texas: Computer models now project uptick in cases after mask mandate removal

What will happen without a mask mandate across the state of Texas? It might not be good news to many, according to recent data. ABC13's Keaton Fox breaks down the model projections in the video above.
Support for mask-wearing continues to be strong, according to the data. Three out of four Texans say they support a mandate and would continue to wear masks, even after the mandate went away.
It's too early for full opening, said IHME Director Chris Murray during a CNN interview Tuesday. While signs look good, he says the risk for numbers spiking again is real - as case numbers go up in Texas.

Weather U: ABC13 Chief Forecaster David Tillman describes how damaging winds form

Most severe weather warnings issued for southeast Texas are severe thunderstorm warnings based on the possibility of damaging winds over 58 mph.
These winds typically come about when some of the rain falling from a thunderstorm evaporates on the way down to the ground. The process of evaporation creates a cooling effect much like what happens when you step out of the shower.
Since cool air is heavy, it crashes to the ground and spreads out in all directions. Sometimes this wind can exceed 100 mph, causing tremendous damage, much like what you would get from a tornado.
If there's hail present, it can be driven into the sides of houses and businesses, causing even more damage.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- METRO Houston and TxDOT are proposing big changes to I-10 between the I-610 West Loop and I-45 in downtown Houston.
On I-10 through Memorial Park and the Heights to downtown Houston, you can run into backups at any time of day. METRO Houston is proposing a dedicated busway that would travel the length of that corridor.
According to the METRO proposal, it would extend from the Northwest Transit Center near US 290, and ideally provide connection to the METRORail Green and Purple lines at the heart of the city. The busway would have stops at newly-proposed stations at Shepherd/Durham and Studemont before entering downtown.
