I read men and women, children too. Rich and poor, the known and the unknown. Because of this emergent and diaries, letters, and other writings, i found a lot that surprised me. Its made clear to me that no matter how majestic and resplendent or the public ceremonies honoring lincoln this end of the war moment was not a time of unity and closure.
