the small island of malta, 200 miles off the northern coast of libya. that country is taking in evacuees from nations trying to escape the conflict. yesterday during this hour, secretary of state hillary clinton was expressing her concern about americans and foreigners inside of libya trying to get them out. what are we seeing in malta as they're taking in these evacuees? >> reporter: well, this is just a transit point. there's a few planes flying in here from libya with evacuees and staying here tonight and going on to their homes in europe and the rest of the world. the problem is it's only very few people coming. there have been several successful evacuations under way. the turkish government able to evacuate 5,000 turks. the greek government evacuating chinese, there's 50,000 chinese workers in libya, most of whom want to leave and the greeks have been helping them. some have passed through here.
