Matildas team locked in for Tokyo with official Olympic selection
The Australian Olympic Committee has selected the 18-strong women’s football squad to the Australian Olympic Team.
Captained by Sam Kerr, the Matildas squad boasts 12 returning Rio Olympians for their second Games and six set to make their Olympic debut in Tokyo.
Falling to a heartbreaking penalty shootout loss to hosts Brazil in the Rio 2016 quarter-finals, the Matildas squad is determined to make Tokyo a memorable tournament.
The squad is filled with players plying their trade in some of the biggest clubs in women’s football including FA Women’s Super League title and Golden Boot winner Sam Kerr, Lyon star defender Ellie Carpenter, UEFA Women’s Champions League-bound Arsenal trio, Steph Catley, Caitlin Foord and Lydia Williams, as well as W-League Championship match-winner Kyra Cooney-Cross.

125,000 units later, Asics reveals Australian Olympic Team uniform
By Imogen Bailey | 14 April 2021
Australian athletes competing at the Tokyo Olympics will be kitted out in a performance uniform created by Asics Oceania.
The uniform has been specially formulated to weather the heat and humidity the athletes will face in Tokyo and features iconic Australian green and gold colour schemes.
Design and development of the uniform began in 2018 and has seen over 125,000 units of apparel and footwear produced for what could be Australia’s largest ever Olympic team for a Games outside of Australia.
The expected team of around 480 athletes across more than 30 sports, as well as coaching and support staff, will wear the uniform at the Games, which kicks off in 100 days.
