complicated family matters hanging over hunter biden. it's been a chaotic week for the president's son, too, as his plea deal fell through on wednesday for federal charges involving misdemeanor tax crimes and a gun violation. cnn's sara murray has more. >> reporter: after a tumultuous day in federal court, hunter biden left with no plea deal. after a federal judge said she was not ready to accept it. president joe biden's son arrived at federal court prepared to plead guilty to two misdemeanor tax charges and to strike a deal avoid a felony gun charge. after a five-year justice department probe that hunter biden once predicted he would emerge from unscathed. >> i am absolutely certain, 100% certain that at the end of the investigation that i will be cleared of any wrongdoing. >> reporter: instead, judge mary ellen noreika, a trump appointee, wanted to know if the investigation was over. prosecutors told her it was ongoing. the two sides could not agree if
biden once predicted had he would emerge from unscathed. >> i'm 100% certain that at the end of the investigation that i will be cleared of any wrongdoing. >> reporter: instead judge i maryellen noreika wanted to know if the investigation was over. prosecutors said that it was ongoing. and then two sides could not agree if hunter biden was at risk of additional charges if he took this deal. with that the deal was derailed. eventually hunter biden's team agreed that he was not shielded from further charges and the deal seemed for a moment back on track. but then the judge raised questions about the gun deal. is this even constitutional, she asked? and she said that she was not ready to sign off on the deal. the hearing ended with hunter biden in a pro inforforma plead not guilty. providing another opening for republican lawmakers to slam the agreement. >> plea deal as we started was garbage. >> hunter biden is getting a

days? >> reporter: hi there, fredicka. it's fury, both here in ukraine and around the world. it has been almost a week of almost daily punishing strikes by russia against odesa. we've seen significant damage caused. this comes in the wake of the grain deal expiring, that international grain deal that's been in place for the past year that has allowed ukraine to export its grain. that grain deal has meant that odesa has been relatively untouched, unscathed for much of the past year. that's no longer the case. there have been strikes in the ports, in grain facilities. today in the historic downtown center of odesa, a unesco world heritage site. some 25 architectural monuments have been damaged. perhaps the site that has gotten the most damage is the transconfiguration cathedral.

threat to putin's power. has he emerged, i don't know if unscathed is the word, but has he case taped unhurt? >> is this the beginning of the end of putin or is this one more of the latest examples of how putin has been able to maintain power for two plus decades. it is too early to see but clearly he doesn't have the power he once had. for weeks we've seen prigozhin very public with his criticisms and prigozhin felt bode enough to attack. so his power is not what it used to be. >> russia's security services have dropped charges for now against prigozhin and his fighters who engage. we should know they killed russian soldiers. they shot down multiple russian aircraft. does that last? are they in the clear as it were?
