CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - As of Wednesday, Mar. 31, the COVID-19 vaccines are available to anyone 16 and older in South Carolina.
However, while state health officials are urging people to make their appointments now, only one shot has been approved for the youngest among those who are now eligible.
Families must make their appointments at clinics offering the Pfizer version of the vaccine for individuals who are 16 or 17 years old because it’s the only one licensed for use in younger people by the Food and Drug Administration.

SEOUL: South Korea said 18,489 people received their first doses of AstraZeneca PLC’s vaccine by midnight on Friday as it launched an ambitious COVID-19 inoculation campaign, and will begin using Pfizer/BioNTech vaccines on Saturday, reports Reuters.
The first to receive the shots are healthcare workers, staffers at assisted care facilities and other high-risk people, with a goal of vaccinating 32 million to 36 million people - some 60% to 70% of the population - by September.
The government hopes to reach herd immunity, defined as at least a 70% vaccine take-up, by November, as health authorities remain on alert for signs of sporadic infections.

Inter-district, interstate travel ban likely to continue until vaccination of at least 70% of population, says Health DG

PUTRAJAYA: The travel ban between states and districts may go on until at least 70% of the population have been vaccinated for Covid-19, says Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He said a lesson could be learnt from the decision to re-allow interstate travel on Dec 7, which resulted in outbreaks in “green states”.
“We saw on Dec 7 when the government allowed interstate travel. The infection was spread to other states.
“Those who were from red zones travelled to green zones, such as Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan.
“For the time being, we will stick to our two approaches of controlling this pandemic, which is through public health measures and our vaccination programme.
