France on Wednesday imposed a 10-day quarantine for travellers from India to prevent the spread of a coronavirus variant, a French government spokesperson said.
Twenty-two coronavirus patients died on Wednesday after oxygen leaked from a tanker outside a hospital in Maharashtra’s Nashik city.
Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research said that Covaxin neutralises the double mutant strain of the coronavirus detected in India.
Serum Institute of India announced that states will get the Covishield vaccine at Rs 400 a dose, while private hospitals will get it at Rs 600.

India reported the year’s biggest daily increase in coronavirus cases on Wednesday with 28,903 new infections, data from the health ministry showed. Total cases in the country have now risen to 1,14,38,734, the highest in the world after the United States and Brazil.
This was the biggest jump since December 13, when India recorded 30,254 new cases, according to PTI.

Amid the continuous spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in different parts of the world, World Health Organisation s chief scientist Soumya Swaminathan has confirmed that new coronavirus vaccines will be launched by the end of this year or next year.
Dr Swaminathan said that six-to-eight vaccines are likely to finish clinical studies and undergo regulatory review by the end of the year, news agency Bloomberg reported.

India administered 1,87,55,540 first doses of the vaccine in the first 17 days of March. At this rate, it will take 2.36 years for India to vaccinate 70 per cent of its population with the initial dose of the two-dose regime vaccination programme.
India began its COVID-19 vaccination programme on January 16, covering healthcare and frontline workers in phase 1
India, the second most populous country in the world, has administered the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine to 3.06 crore people till March 18, 2021. However, this figure represents only 2.3 per cent of India s 135.5 crore population. Full vaccination (both doses) has been given to only 0.5 per cent of the total population. At this rate, India will take 10.8 years to administer both doses to 70 per cent of its population to attain herd immunity.

India has administered the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine to 2.14 crore people, till March 12, 2021. That s only 1.58% of 135.5 crore population. Both doses have been given to only 0.35%. At this rate, vaccinating 70% Indians-the herd immunity threshold-will take 12.6 years.
