Host we are focusing on books written by former first ladies. The first first lady to venture into publishing was known one who recalls her time in the white house 1914 and since then ten other first ladies have published memoirs. We will focus tonight on five women who have served in that position in the last 50 years. First up, Rosalynn Carter who served as first lady from 19771981 and she is the author of five books. In 1984 her bestselling memoir, first lady from plains, was released. Missus carters subsequent books have focused on caregiving and Mental Health care. News in recent years, i imagine that you, like me, have found it difficult to ignore the topic of refugees. This is an image of a refugees experience fleeing communist vietnam in 1975. But in many ways, it reminds us of images that we might see on the news today. It is hard to ignore the human stories of families perishing it see. Refugees are suffocating in meat trucks. They are crowding onto leaky boats. They are drowning. The bodies of those who are unable to cross to safety are washing up on mediterranean beaches. And refugees have been in the news for the past few years. Particularly related to the crisis in syria. But refugees are being uprooted by conflict all around the world. Were not just talking about refugees coming from syria, but from other war torn regions. Especially in the past couple of years, it has also been very difficult to ignore the public response to refugees. And Refugee Resettlement, like so many o ....
In june of 1973 during testimony before the Senate Watergate committee, mr. Dean implicated president nixon and administration officials, including himself in the watergate coverup. He later pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice for his role in watergate and served four months in prison. Discovering the tapes system, was it lucky or inevitable, is what were looking at. The nixon taping the whole story of the nixon tapes has been only partially told. Its taken me years to gather and find out what happened. Since its one of the most important factors in the watergate story, i think its important to get that history straight, and were going to try to do that in a very summary fashion today. Before i start, though, i would like to remind you that other president s did tape, starting with franklin roosevelt, who used a when they first went to talking movies and they had a soundtrack, he had a system that was put in the oval office ....
