Flood waters you can see over the streets there. it is going to be sometime before life gets back to normal in that part of the state. it isn t just that part of the state. i just saw pictures from massachusetts not far from where i grew up where roads there are closed because there s flooding. flooding everywhere. it s affecting travel severely this morning, of course, as we ve seen people, not just here in new york city, but also in new jersey as well. you saw flooding in the downstairs part of the new jersey airport overnight where the baggage goes. that part is still closed, we are told this morning, by the port authority of new jersey and new york which, of course, runs all this. hundreds of flights have been delayed. a few dozen have been canceled out of the new jersey airport. so we do want to go to brian stelter who is in new jersey. and, brian, i know you looked through this overnight. what did you see and what is it looking like this morning from where you are? reporter: ....
Chris. i hopped in a car after reliable sources. we re in battery park, the lower tip of manhattan we ll flip the dash cam on as we make our way across lower manhattan towards the south end seaport. these areas were under water during super storm sandy. it s remarkable to see the amount of rain that some of these communities are dealing with. right now the flash flood warnings have expired in new york. in connecticut, new london, groton, we re seeing those flash flood warnings right now. these different rain bands sitting on different areas. people who were watching the concern here on cnn last night, when you saw that tremendous rain band come into central park, we now know it was the w wettest hour in new york city history. almost two inches, a record going back more than 100 years. ....
Kansas pounded by severe storms yesterday. pretty amazing pictures there. let s go ahead and bring in meteorologist ingrid petersons, who are monitoring all of today s weather. i know, indra, you are kind of a self-described weather nerd. i know you would like to be out there witnessing that in person, but it s also very dangerous. weather geek, that is definitely me. we re talking about rainfall rates over 2 inches an hour. about 7 inches on sunday morning in kansas and this morning in missouri, that system moved just a little farther to the east and they dealt with heavy rainfall rates, about 7 inches of rain until about 6:00 in the morning, starting at midnight. an unbelievable a lmount of rai. they had flash flood mrng emergencies. and these systems are training, meaning storm after storm over the same place, day after day. and unfortunately, as we go ....
