Art is back. During lockdown, of course, it never truly left. But the joys of a solo mooch around a gallery, or a family outing, were put on hold.
But now, from May 1 in some parts of the UK, and 17 May in England, the nation's galleries and art museums can welcome visitors again at last. Some smaller commercial galleries have already reopened, as they’re classed as “non-essential retail” and were thus able to welcome visitors (and customers) back, as other shops were, from April 12.

V&A Dundee – club culture exhibition
V&A Dundee’s Night Fever exhibition will be one of the first shows to open in the UK, with Scotland coming out of lockdown earlier than the rest on 1 May. Appropriate too, that it will explore a world that most of us haven’t seen for more than a year: clubbing. Night Fever will delve into iconic clubs from New York, Paris, Florence, Manchester, London, Bierut and Berlin – as well as those in towns and cities across Scotland. The show will cover how the progressive and subversive history of nightclub design has influenced pop culture, from Studio 54 to the Haçienda.

From December 2018 to April 2019, the Yanomami people were the subject of an extraordinary exhibition in São Paulo, The Yanomami Struggle, by photographer Claudia Andujar and the Moreira Sales Institute [IMS] which presented the Yanomamis’ courageous and painful story. Claudia Andujar lived among these people in the 1970s when they were still isolated in Amazonia. The show moved to the IMS in Rio de Janeiro and earlier this year was mounted at the Cartier Foundation in Paris but had to be interrupted soon after it opened because of the coronavirus pandemic. The Cartier space was reopened to visitors in June and closed again n September.
