Vanderbilt to celebrate Black History Month with events all February

Vanderbilt University will celebrate Black History Month during February with events aimed to acknowledge and appreciate the accomplishments of Black people on campus, across the country and around the globe. Check out this list of events hosted happening throughout the month by the Bishop Joseph Johnson Black Cultural Center.

Nashville Public Television, Vanderbilt Project on Unity and American Democracy collaborate on broadcast and digital feature

A feature program about The Vanderbilt Project on Unity and American Democracy will make its Nashville Public Television debut on Thursday, Nov. 16, at 8:30 p.m. CT and will be available afterward on the PBS app. Directly following the premiere, at 9:30 p.m., Vanderbilt professor John Geer and Unity Project co-chairs Bill Haslam and Samar Ali will discuss what they’ve learned in the two years since the project’s inception.

María Magdalena Campos-Pons wins 2023 MacArthur Fellowship

Maria A. Ressa, an internationally acclaimed journalist who has endured political threats and government arrests for her commitment to truth and democracy, will receive Vanderbilt University’s prestigious Nichols-Chancellor’s Medal when she speaks to the university’s graduating students and their families on May 11 during 2023 Commencement activities. Vanderbilt is honoring the Class of 2023 with a series of events May 11–12.
