After hours of debate Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon, the Washington state House of Representatives approved the Senate s capital gains bill, which would levy a 7% excise tax on profits from the sale of financial assets over $250,000 per year. Over the next few weeks lawmakers in Olympia will consider a few major pieces of legislation designed to strengthen tenant protections and help stem the tide of a potential wave of evictions set to begin at the end of the month, when the Governor s moratorium is scheduled to lift.

So then why did five Democrats vote against it?
