I thought the drone came mic guy was being pretentious. His cartoon makes the point about US imperialism and pseudo liberalism in a very effective manner and does not interfere with anyone who might want to offer a platform for the victims of drone bombing if anything, by writing this essay he is doing the same thing all over again. I thought the essay was an example of something we need to see less elaborate performative meta analysis as virtue signaling. Our supposed liberal humanitarian foreign policy is murderous. That is the main message. The cartoon effectively makes that point. ....

British prime minister Boris Johnson’s decision to drive forward with the idea of a bridge or tunnel between Northern Ireland and Britain has provoked mixed reactions in the North, ranging from enthusiasm to cynicism. While Mr Johnson’s aspiration initially was for a mutli-billion pound bridge between the islands, it appears his government may now be tilting in favour of a tunnel. “I imagine that you would need to do a tunnel because of weather factors,” the British transport secretary Grant Shapps said on Wednesday. ....

Fantasy has replaced British modesty, 19 February) mentioned “a vast munitions dump on the seabed” on the route of the proposed rail tunnel between Scotland and Northern Ireland. The dump lies in the Beaufort Dyke, a deep trench in the North Channel. I reported its presence nearly 30 years ago for BBC News. The Ministry of Defence originally told me that it had dumped munitions there since the end of the second world war, that it knew what they were and that they totalled around 100,000 tonnes. ....
