While California, New York, and other states have gone off the deep end on coronavirus restrictions, Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D) has been unusually quiet. That changed Thursday, when the radical leader broke his silence with a slew of new rules. And, like every other liberal leader, he didn t mind shaming churches in the process.
This is a holy time for multiple faith traditions,  Northam said at his press conference on Thursday. But this year, we need to think about what is truly the most important thing. Is it the worship or the building? For me, God is wherever you are. ....

When Santa Clara County (Calif.) Superior Court Judge Peter Kirwan imposed $55,000 in fines on Calvary Chapel San Jose for defying the state’s ban on indoor worship, he warned church officials against resistance.
“Even if you disagree with those opinions, these orders do have a purpose,” Kirwan told Pastor Mike McClure and the church’s attorneys. “You can’t just ignore those rules and regulations, nor can you ignore a court order just because you disagree with them.”
Judge Kirwan should spend a little time reading the New Testament book of Acts, especially in its fifth chapter, which relates what happened when Peter and the Apostles were jailed by the Sanhedrin for talking about Jesus’ resurrection. ....

Is it the worship or the building? For me, God is wherever you are. You don’t have to sit in the church pew for God to hear your prayers,” Northam said. “Worship with a mask on is still worship. Worship outside or worship online is still worship.” ....

Protesters Call for Religious Freedom in California Pastor’s Court Case
SAN JOSE, Calif. Protesters held a rally outside the Santa Clara Superior Court in San Jose on Dec. 8 when a hearing took place over a church’s defiance of health orders.
The protesters came to support defendant Pastor Mike McClure of Calvary Chapel San Jose and to call for the freedom to hold in-person church services during the pandemic. Attendees included members of the church’s congregation, other pastors, and supporters of the First Amendment.
A Santa Clara County health officer had filed a lawsuit against Calvary Chapel San Jose on grounds that the church was holding services for hundreds of people indoors, going against public health orders. ....
