About the Author
Malcolm Lloyd Dubber is a scientist, specializing in explosives chemistry, CBRNe and emergency planning. He gained a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degree in Explosives Chemistry from the City University, London. He is a Chartered Scientist (CSci), Chartered Chemist (CChem), Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (MRSC), and a Fellow of the Emergency Planning Society (FEPS). He is a former U.K. Home Office Civil Defence Scientific advisor (stood down in 1992). He has the unusual combination of working with explosives and radioactive substances that led him to work at the U.K. s Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) Aldermaston. He has worked as a local government emergency planning officer and has undertook the preparation of special emergency plans, such as Chernobyl, Ukraine. Council explains decision to abandon 15,000 home project


The site in Grazeley had been earmarked for 15,000 homes
THE leaders of West Berkshire Council say “it is not premature” to abandon a 15,000-home project.
The council had been working with Wokingham Borough Council and Reading Borough Council to draw up plans for a huge garden town in Grazeley – around one mile away from AWE Burghfield.
But West Berkshire Council has pulled out because of concerns about a potential radiation emergency and a lack of funding for infrastructure, after the government rejected a bid for £252 million of support in 2020.
The site that had been earmarked for the new homes is now inside the Detailed Emergency Planning Zone (DEPZ) around AWE Burghfield, after that zone was extended by West Berkshire Council in March 2020. ....
