PITTSBURGH John Tague, chairman of the Pennsylvania Transportation Alliance, uses a wheelchair and understands the daily mobility challenges faced by people with disabilities.
That’s why Tague is excited that a team from Carnegie Mellon University has received a grant to develop a prototype system for autonomous vehicles that will allow anyone to control most vehicle functions from summoning the vehicle to their location to controlling the windows and the temperature of the air conditioning from their cellphones. ....

Group Homes 'Elbowed Aside' As COVID-19 Doses Shifted To Mass-Vaccination Sites

ALBANY, N.Y. Thousands of individuals with disabilities who live in group home settings have seen their rate of vaccinations for coronavirus dwindle as the state has shifted doses to mass-vaccination sites and expanded the number of individuals eligible for the shots.
Roughly 30 percent of the Capital Region’s group home population about 11,000 individuals with disabilities and staff members who care for them in a 10-county region have been vaccinated through the first five weeks of the rollout. But when the state shifted to mass-vaccination sites, including one at the University of Albany, those locations were given in some cases 50 percent or more of a region’s doses. ....

UAE: Hospital, doctor to pay couple Dh1.3 million for botched C-section

An official report said the doctor made a serious medical error, which resulted in a 100 per cent disability.
A hospital and a doctor that caused a woman to go into a coma while giving birth due to medical negligence during a caesarian operation, have been told to pay the patient and her husband Dh1.3 million in damages.
The Abu Dhabi Court of Appeal upheld an earlier ruling by a lower court which ordered the hospital and its doctor to pay the amount to the Arab woman and her husband in compensation for the physical, moral and material damages they suffered. ....
