What we know about the 11 women in the Cuomo harassment report
Tuesday’s devastating report from state Attorney General Tish James detailed instances of sexual harassment and mistreatment of 11 women by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
Some of those 11 women are named in the report — others feared retaliation or other reprisals for publicly coming forward — and nine of them are current or former state employees.
Many of their accounts share similarities — women said they were uncomfortable with Cuomo’s attempts to hug and kiss them or give them nicknames. Others detailed more shocking instances of inappropriate behavior, though James said Tuesday that her office would not pursue criminal charges and “there’s no penalty specifically tied to this report.”

Gov. Andrew Cuomo stands to benefit from undermining public confidence in the investigation overseen by state Attorney General Letitia James. His political allies have alleged – without evidence – that she and a top investigator are more interested in scoring political points than finding the facts. The Cuomo administration has even brushed aside concerns that this amounts to tampering with an ongoing investigation just as the governor was getting ready to testify to investigators. "I have concerns as to the independence of the reviewers,” Cuomo added Monday.

“Bernie Sanders skeptical of the Biden White House’s dealmaking plan” [Axios]. “Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) indicated to “Axios on HBO” he’s already impatient with the White House’s quest for Republican support for President Biden’s infrastructure package, saying. ‘The American people want results’ and don’t care if these results are achieved with bipartisan votes… [F]rankly, when people got a, you know [ha*], $1,400 check or $5,600 check for their family, they didn’t say, ‘Oh, I can’t cash this check because it was done without any Republican votes.’… Sanders believes the lesson of the Obama era — in which the former president held out hope of getting Republicans to support the Affordable Care Act — is that it’s foolish to let Republicans slow-walk the Democratic agenda. ‘Congress takes breaks and it’s easy to obstruct,’ Sanders said. ‘The Senate is a very slow-moving process. … I would begin, you know, starting this work immediately. If Republicans want to come on board, seriously, great. If not, we’re going to do it alone.'” • Sanders is obviously right, so much as to make me question the good faith of liberal Democrats who seem to think otherwise; I can’t think what would motivate them other than something outside the scope of their Congressional duties. Three months ago, top aides to Governor Andrew Cuomo met with a handful of Democratic state lawmakers to discuss why his administration waited months and months to release data on the number of nursing home residents who died of COVID-19 in hospitals. State politics would never be the same.
A scathing report on nursing home deaths by Attorney General Letitia James was bad enough, but the governor’s political problems escalated when the press found out that Secretary to the Governor Melissa DeRosa had told legislators that the administration withheld data showing the true extent of nursing home deaths last year because they did not want then-President Donald Trump to find out.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's Communications Director Resigns

8 May 2021
Peter Ajemian, the communications director for New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D), resigned Friday, adding to the list of growing departures from the governor’s office.
Ajemian’s last day of work was Friday. The former communications director will be replaced by Rich Azzopardi, who’s been a longtime chief adviser for the governor, according to an announcement. Azzopardi will be taking on a double role as communications director and chief adviser.
“After nearly four years, and with this year’s budget done and vaccine eligibility open to everyone, I decided now is the time to pursue opportunities in the private sector,” Ajemian said in a statement reported by Spectrum News.

Top Cuomo Aide Resigns As Investigations Drag On

We haven't heard much Gov. Andrew Cuomo over the past few weeks as the governor's strategy of accelerating the reopening of the Empire State to help distract from the numerous scandals he faced earlier this year (from concealing the death toll from the state's nursing homes, to allegedly harassing at least nine women, including vulnerable young female staffers) has apparently succeeded.
But with NYC set to reopen "100%" on July 1 (according to Cuomo's political arch-rival, Mayor Bill de Blasio), an Albany reporter with NY focused politics outlet State of Politics reports that Cuomo's Communications Director, Peter Ajemian, has abruptly quit and Friday will be his last day with the governor.

"After nearly four years, and with this year's budget done and vaccine eligibility open to everyone, I decided now is the time to pursue opportunities in the private sector," Ajemian said in a statement. "I’m grateful to the governor for giving me the chance to serve. It's been the honor of a lifetime to be part of a team working for New Yorkers in a period of unprecedented crisis and seeing the government work for the people and people work for each other."

Cuomo communications director resigns, joins others who have jumped ship amid scandals

Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s communications director Peter Ajemian resigned Friday, making him the latest to distance himself from the multiple scandals embroiling the New York governor.
Richard Azzopardi, the governor’s longtime advisor who has publicly gone to bat for him amid investigations into sexual harassment claims and into Cuomo’s handling of nursing homes during the pandemic, will now wear another hat as communications director.
Ajemian took on the role not yet a year ago, in August 2020, when Dani Lever left for a job in the private sector. Ajemian says he too is leaving for the private sector after nearly four years with the governor’s office.
