FDA warns 10 companies for selling unlawful dietary supplements that claim to treat mental health problems

FDA warns 10 companies for selling unlawful dietary supplements that claim to treat mental health problems
Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced warning letters to 10 companies for illegally selling dietary supplements that claim to cure, treat, mitigate, or prevent depression and other mental health disorders, in violation of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act). The warning letters were issued to: Enlifta LLC; Lifted Naturals; Mountain Peak Nutritionals; SANA Group LLC.; Wholesome Wellness; Dr. Garber’s Natural Solutions; ProHealth Inc.; Blossom Nature LLC; FDC Nutrition Inc.; and Silver Star Brands, Inc.
Dietary supplements that claim to cure, treat, mitigate or prevent depression and other mental health disorders are unapproved new drugs that could potentially harm consumers who use these products instead of seeking proven treatments from qualified health care providers. This is especially concerning during the ongoing pandemic, when consumers are even more susceptible to depression and mental health issues. The agency is committed to taking action to protect the public from unlawful dietary supplements.”

The global omega 3 supplements market size is expected to reach USD 9.88 billion by 2027, expanding at a CAGR of 8.4% from 2020 to 2027.
The demand for omega-3 supplements is projected to be driven by the growing adoption of the product to fulfill the daily nutritional requirements and maintain optimum health of organs by the geriatric population in developed economies, such as the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and France.
Furthermore, the outbreak of COVID-19 from the beginning of 2020 led to increased consumer awareness regarding the significance of immunity and immunity-boosting products, which is expected to fuel the demand for various omega fatty acids products. Increasing incorporation of products in gummies form with novel flavor is expected to increase product penetration among children in the coming years.

RRSP Investors: This Stock Should Be a Cornerstone Holding

As far as commodity players go,
Nutrien Inc. (TSX:NTR)(NYSE:NTR) remains a top pick of mine in this space for a number of reasons. Long-term investors seeking capital safety and income would do well to consider Nutrien a portfolio staple. This stock provides diversification and low-beta earnings which are excellent as far as risk-adjusted returns go.
But, these commodities are under pressure?
Potash is oversupplied, the nitrogen market fundamentals aren’t great, and phosphates tend to always be oversupplied. This supply/demand unfavourability doesn’t look good on the surface. One may wonder why buying this stock near 52-week highs makes sense?

Chapel Hill-based Mesur.io and BOA in Raleigh raise cash

RESEARCH TRIANGLE — Chapel Hill-based Mesur.io, an agricultural technology company, has raised $775,000 in a debt round with a $1 million goal, according to a regulatory filing.
Fifteen investors contributed to the raise, which suggests the company is selling options and securities, although we have not confirmed this.
The company raised $750,000 in equity in 2018.
Mesur.io develops a plant-able technology called Earthstream that calibrates and measures relevant data including light, soil moisture and temperature to help farmers, among others, make decisions on labor, water and raw materials, according to the company website.
Its motto is “To Give the Earth a Voice.”
AgTech forms a significant cluster in North Carolina and the Research Triangle in particular In addition to most of the major companies in the space, the area has generated many AgTech startups from its three research universities, spinouts from larger firms, and executives and employees trained at those larger firms. The North Carolina Biotechnology Center holds bimonthly AgTech meetings virtually during Covid, but at the Center in more normal times.

Trojan Family Christmas gets a different look

Dec 20, 2020
This year’s edition of Greater Johnstown School District’s annual Trojan Family Christmas event on Tuesday will look different as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Elementary teachers will travel on school buses provided by McIlwain School Bus Lines to 40 designated sites throughout the district, where they will give students gift bags filled with “educational and health essentials, as well as some fun and food items.”
Each family has been sent notice of their designated site and time in order to reduce crowding and maintain social distancing.
Major sponsors for the event are Greater Johnstown School District employees; Greater Johnstown High School Key Club members and advisors; Nutrition Inc.; Pennsylvania Highlands Community College; University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown Education Department; Sheetz; Dr. Jerry Zahorchak; Dr. Christine Dahlin; Thomas Schuster; and the Koscis family.
