THE coronavirus is still raging across the world, and Nigeria is not immune to it. Yet, it often takes the death of a prominent person to alert Nigerians to its clear and present danger. The latest high-profile death was that of Yinka Odumakin, national publicity secretary of
Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, who died from COVID-19 complications on April 2. We will never know whether his death was preventable, yet evidence shows that COVID-19 mortality is avoidable.
Worldwide, illnesses, hospitalisations and deaths from the coronavirus have reduced due to the combination of strict observance of safety protocols, effective test, trace and isolate system and, ultimately, vaccination. ....

Staggering 10 to 15 percent of infected children suffer from Long COVID
Recently published data from the UK Office for National Statistics (ONS) shows that among children who have survived COVID-19, 13 percent of those 11 years or younger and about 15 percent of those aged 12 to 16 are suffering the effects of Post-acute COVID-19 (“Long COVID”) and report at least one symptom five weeks after a confirmed COVID-19 infection.
Long COVID is a multisystem disease in which growing numbers of adults and children are suffering from lingeringsymptoms for months or even a year now after contracting COVID-19. These include sleep disorders such as insomnia, heart palpitations, gastrointestinal issues, breathing difficulties, muscle and joint pain plus exhaustion, headaches and cognitive impairment (“brain fog”) and overall lack of concentration. Those who suffer from persistent symptoms sometimes refer to themselves as “long haulers.” ....

The CDC guidelines for social distancing in schools are based on distorted science: neither three feet nor six feet distancing is safe

The CDC guidelines for social distancing in schools are based on distorted science: neither three feet nor six feet distancing is safe

Politico wrote on the issue of schools and infection rates: “The data on how coronavirus is spreading at schools and colleges is inconsistent, erratic and sometimes purposely kept out of the public’s reach.”
It has been stated repeatedly and proven on numerous occasions that children are more likely than adults to display little or no symptoms, while being capable of infecting others, including their relatives and families. More recent studies have identified schools and students attending them as contributing to community transmissions. ....
