Capitol Police officer dies after U.S. Capitol chaos, police say


The U.S. Capitol Police says an officer who was injured after responding to riots at the Capitol has died.
Officer Brian D. Sicknick died Thursday due to injuries sustained while on-duty, physically engaging with protesters at the U.S. Capitol, the statement said.
Supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol on Wednesday as Congress was tallying the Electoral College votes to confirm Democrat Joe Biden won the election. Sicknick returned to his division office and collapsed, the report said. He was taken to a hospital and later died.
The death will be investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch, the USCP, and federal law enforcement. Sicknick joined the Capitol police in 2008. ....

Brian Sicknick, who died from injuries after riot, wanted to be a police officer 'his entire life'


A U.S. Capitol Police officer died Thursday night after he was injured in a pro-Trump riot, the fifth person to die in relation to Wednesday’s attack on the Capitol building.
Three people died from medical emergencies on Capitol grounds Wednesday, and one woman was fatally shot by a Capitol Police officer.
Capitol Police officer Brian D. Sicknick joined the force in July 2008 and was part of the department’s First Responders Unit. Sicknick was hit in the head with a fire extinguisher during the riot, according to two law enforcement officials who spoke to the Associated Press.
Flags were at half-staff in front of the Capitol building Friday morning. Sicknick’s death is being investigated as a homicide by federal and local authorities, a development that raises the stakes of the investigation into possible crimes committed during the violent security breach. ....
