® Massachusetts and Rhode Island announced Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is the recipient of the 2021 Community Hero Award. Dana-Farber Cancer Institute President and Chief Executive Officer Laurie H. Glimcher, MD, received the award on April 10, 2021, at the Make-A-Wish
® Gala: Heroes for Hope, a live virtual event.
The Community Hero Award recognizes an organization or individual providing vital partnership in the Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island mission creating life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. Dana-Farber Cancer Institute has championed the Make-A-Wish mission for more than 30 years, referring more than 2,500 children in Massachusetts and Rhode Island to experience the powerful impact of a wish fulfilled. ....

Bill filed to cover mail-in, early voting costs for Mass. towns


BOSTON A new bill co-sponsored by state Sen. Susan Moran, D-Falmouth, would cover the upfront costs for cities and towns to provide for early and mail-in voting on a permanent basis.
The bill, numbered SD.1378 in the Senate and HD.449 in the House, would see the state preemptively cover costs, including salaries for overtime work and hiring additional staff. State Sen. Rebecca Rausch, D-Needham, and Rep. Steven Ultrino, D-Malden, have filed the bill in each chamber, respectively.
Currently, cities and towns can ask the state to be reimbursed for election costs, but still have to foot the bill upfront, Rausch said ....

Cape legislators: No immediate plans for a teacher-only vaccination site on Cape Cod


BOURNE The Cape s legislative delegation sent a letter to local school superintendents telling them not to expect an educator-only vaccination site this side of the bridge any time soon, even as state officials Wednesday called for such local clinics to be held.
“We have asked the Baker-Polito Administration about setting up educator-specific sites and, so far, we have received a hard NO,” the letter dated Tuesday read.
The eight legislators urged teachers and other school employees not to wait for a vaccine but to avail themselves of appointments through CVS, the state’s seven mass vaccination sites and other currently available locations. ....

March   4th     Osterville - A daughter of Mr. James Codd, aged ten years, on Friday last, picked up a loaded pistol in the street, she took it to school with her, placing it in her cloak pocket. In some way, one of the charges was exploded, the ball entering the upper part of her bowels. A surgeon failed to reach the ball by probing, and though the child lived there was little hope of her recovery.She died on Thursday. ....
