New Denver Restaurants and Closings in April 2021

April is the cruelest month of all which holds true during a pandemic. For starters, the state government announced the easing of specific COVID-related business restrictions at the beginning of the month, even as cases and hospitalizations were on the rise. And restaurant workers have been dealing with a new wave of mask-holes and other entitled customers demanding their constitutional right to display their willful ignorance in public. Business is indeed picking up in the hospitality industry, but hiring has been tough (queue lazy unemployment sponges trumpeters), and some restaurants had to shutter for a day or two here and there while their entire staffs took vaccination days. ....

New Denver Restaurants and Closings the Week of April 26 to May 2, 2021

The hot chicken war is getting hotter. Los Angeles chain Dave s Hot Chicken just opened an outlet in a brand-new apartment building at Broadway and Bayaud Street, right across the street from Denver s second Voodoo Doughnut. What do the two have in common? They re both loud, brash and fun, enticing customers with bright colors and over-the-top eats. And they re both from out of town, which is unusual for this stretch of Broadway, where weird and independent (or weirdly independent) have been the trademark since before the time when the currently shuttered Punch Bowl Social which helped earn the stretch the nickname SoBro was a Big Lots. ....

Lucile's Creole Cafe Littleton Reopens After Closing in 2020

Lucile’s Creole Cafe in Littleton is back. As the most recent addition to the lineup of Southern breakfast and lunch eateries that have become a Colorado institution, Lucile’s is ready to swing the rustic doors open on the South Platte River and welcome old, new and always loyal customers.
The original Lucile s opened in 1980 in Boulder under founder Lucile Richards and her son, Fletcher Richards. Since then, they’ve expanded their restaurants throughout the Front Range, treating customers to their Creole-themed menu.
The Littleton Lucile’s originally opened in 2010 at 2852 West Bowles Avenue, but in November 2020, the eatery closed its doors. Brian Heilman, who ran the Littleton location, explains that the closing was because the lease ended and was not renewed by the landlord. He says that after a decade of serving breakfast and lunch along with holding special events like crawfish boils and disco dancing pits the team was heartbroken to close. ....

Of a Kind and OAK Market Open at Clayton Members Club Hotel

There s an exclusive new spot in Cherry Creek called the Clayton Members Club & Hotel, and frankly, it s a little extra for most of us regular Denver folks. But if you don t want to drop two or three grand to gain access to private dining, a rooftop pool and lounge and other event spaces, there are a couple of street-level options now open to the public. Of a Kind is a wood-fired restaurant that debuted on Thursday, April 29, and its grab-and-go sibling, OAK Market, is also now open, offering coffee, upscale deli foods and ice cream.
All of the food at the Clayton comes from the mind of executive chef Brandon Duley, who recently moved to Denver from Los Angeles, where his focus at the Gjelina restaurant group (and at other hotel restaurants) was on produce-driven cuisine sourced from the many farmers markets in the L.A. area. He plans to continue that mission at Of a Kind and OAK Market, adjusting to Colorado s shorter growing season and unique purveyors. ....

Beast + Bottle Will Close on East 17th Avenue in June

Chef Paul C. Reilly and his sister, Aileen V. Reilly, debuted Beast + Bottle at 719 East 17th Avenue in 2013, relying on Colorado farmers and ranchers to supply much of the meat and produce on their menu. Over the past eight years, the restaurant has become one of the best in Denver despite its tiny kitchen and dining room. But the building that Beast + Bottle occupies has been sold, and the new owner won t be extending its lease. As a result, the Reillys will be closing the place after dinner service on Saturday, June 5.
Paul and Aileen, along with partner JP Taylor Jr. (Aileen s husband), have earned a reputation not just for great food, but for carefully planned wine and cocktail lists and welcoming hospitality. The 54-seat dining room (including eleven seats at the bar) has been the scene of many celebrations, first dates, neighborhood gatherings and stops for drinks and appetizers. The closing has everything to do with the sale of the building, Paul Reilly explains. It ....
