Almost didn’t write this article, as this man never lived in Montgomery County as far as I know, but he spent many an hour riding the dusty or snowy trails, administering to the sick, especially in the lower portion of our county. Well admired, he was not only a doctor here and in his own home area (Putnam County) but in Marion, Morgan, Hendricks, Parke, Vigo, and Clay. He was certainly a traveling man. In fact, I’ve read hundreds of articles on the early area doctors and I do believe he had the largest area of any. So well loved, if a new doctor planted anywhere around here, the newby was soon gone because his patients wouldn’t stand for anyone else but Doctor Dan to care for them! ....

Biden's first 100 days: Speak softly and deliver a big pitch

Biden’s first 100 days: Speak softly and deliver a big pitch
Jonathan Tamari, The Philadelphia Inquirer
WASHINGTON To many, Joe Biden signaled a return to normalcy. He’s pushing for transformation.
Having campaigned as the candidate of stability for a country battered by a pandemic and toxic politics, Biden has used his first 100 days in office to wrap a sweeping agenda inside a workmanlike and familiar persona.
That combination has, at least so far, enabled him to press dramatic policy ambitions without the backlash that confronted his two predecessors.
”He’s taking very big swings but he’s doing all of this very quietly,” said Alison Dagnes, a political science professor at Shippensburg University in Franklin County. ....

Greencastle-Antrim School Board primary candidates answer questions

There is one, two-year seat available, but no one registered for that position so a candidate could be nominated in the primary with 10 write-in votes the same number of signatures needed on nominating petitions, according to the Franklin County commissioners office.
If there is no write-in candidate from the primary, someone could win the seat with a write-in in the November election, with no minimum vote. If the seat is still unfilled, it will be considered a vacancy to be filled by the school board.
To help readers learn more about the people running on the contested Republican ballot, we asked the candidates three questions. Here are their answers, in the order in which their names will appear on the ballot: ....

PSSHE right to streamline operations at 6 state-run universities | News, Sports, Jobs

Apr 29, 2021
The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education exists largely to provide a relatively-affordable option for residents of the commonwealth and from other states and countries to seek a quality college education without having to go into hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt.
And for much of its life, it has. Thousands upon thousands of professionals working today not only in Pennsylvania, but around the U.S. and the world including several who work here are proud alumni of one of the 14 state-run universities (Bloomsburg, California, Cheyney, Clarion, East Stroudsburg, Edinboro, Indiana, Kutztown, Lock Haven, Mansfield, Millersville, Shippensburg, Slippery Rock and West Chester). ....
