Greensboro: Police investigating crash, lanes closed

An Eden man died has after a wreck in Greensboro Saturday morning, police said. According to the Greensboro Police Department Odis Alexiou, 71, of Greensboro, was driving on Battleground Avenue at 10:37 a.m. when he crossed the left of center and struck a Honda CR-V traveling the other direction. Police said the passenger in the Honda CR-V, Joseph Edwards, of Eden, died from injuries sustained in the collision. The driver was not hurt, police said.Alexiou was charged with driving left of center and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. Police said investigators did not suspect impairment or speed as factors in the crash.A section of Battleground Avenue was closed in Greensboro Saturday while police investigated the crash.Police responded to the 2100 block of Battleground Avenue at about 10:30 a.m.

All northbound lanes of South Elm Eugene Street between Vivian Lane and Webster Road in Greensboro are closed while officers investigate a traffic accident that left one person dead.Click the video player above for the latest headlines from WXII 12 News.The accident involved a pedestrian and a driver, Greensboro police said. The pedestrian involved in the crash is now dead, police said.Greensboro police are advising drivers to use caution in this area and take alternate routes until further notice. GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — A company which has been a fixture in central North Carolina for years is staying put and keeping the jobs there.
Switzerland-based Syngenta Crop Protection said Tuesday it will keep its headquarters in west Greensboro and invest $68 million to redevelop and rebuild a significant portion of its campus, the News & Record of Greensboro reported.
The company, which has been discussing options for a new site since mid-2019, said its original 70-acre home is the best fit despite looking at other sites in Guilford County and other areas in the state and the U.S. It will build new offices and labs on the property.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The North Carolina Senate elected seven people Wednesday to the governing panel for the 17-campus University of North Carolina system.
Senators reelected to the UNC Board of Governors board Chair Randy Ramsey, discount retailer CEO and conservative philanthropist Art Pope of Raleigh and Jimmy Clark of Greensboro, the owner of a heavy transportation company. Ramsey is a boat-building company executive from Carteret County.
Board newcomers also elected to four-year terms are investment firm partner Lee Roberts of Raleigh, who was then-Gov. Pat McCrory’s budget director; security-services firm president Sonja Nichols of Charlotte; and real estate developer Kirk Bradley of Sanford.
