Dolphins' ideal two-round NFL draft scenario: Playmakers, pass-rushers and a center

MIAMI -- It would be a surprise if the Miami Dolphins don't leave the first two rounds of the 2021 NFL draft with at least one (and more likely two) playmakers to help quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and the offense.
With the draft about two weeks away (April 29-May 1 in Cleveland, ESPN/ESPN App), time is running out for projections. ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. released a two-round mock Tuesday that has the Dolphins taking Florida tight end Kyle Pitts with the No. 4 overall pick (after a trade up with the Atlanta Falcons from No. 6) and Michigan defensive end Kwity Paye at No. 18. Kiper also has them taking North Carolina running back Javonte Williams at No. 36 and Michigan offensive tackle Jalen Mayfield at No. 50.

Bills take Clemson RB Travis Etienne in Fan Nation's mock draft.

Apr 14, 2021
Barring a trade up in this year's NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills won't be in a great position at No. 30 to get an impact pass rusher or one of the top cornerbacks, which are positions of need.
That's why they turn their attention to another position in which an upgrade might still be considered a priority: Running back. They go for more of a sure thing with Clemson's Travis Etienne, Fan Nation predicts in its 2021 mock first round, assembled by the publishers of each SI.com's team websites.
Because the running back position has come to be devalued by the NFL over the years, many of the top backs get pushed down in the first round and even out of the first round altogether in some cases.

Mel Kiper sees an NFL draft stocked with positions the Cardinals need

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Arizona Cardinals are in need of a wide receiver who can be a foundational piece of their offense for the foreseeable future, and according to ESPN NFL Draft Insider Mel Kiper Jr., receivers are plentiful this year.
Kiper projects 37 pass-catches -- slot receivers, wide outs and tight ends -- who could be drafted in the first five rounds of this year's NFL draft, including 14 wide receivers with first- and second-round grades.
The Cardinals, of course, have a WR1 in DeAndre Hopkins, but need a WR2. And even though they signed veteran A.J. Green this offseason, they only gave him a one-year contract. At 32, the end of Green's career is closer than the beginning. That, coupled with the uncertainty of Larry Fitzgerald's future, puts receiver near the top of the Cardinals' draft priorities this year.

PR Roundtable: Who Is Your Bucs Draft Crush In 2021

Scott Reynolds: I Have So Many, But Barnes Is My Current Fave
A Bucs draft crush is defined as a draft prospect that I really love that I would want to see the Bucs draft – regardless of the round. The problem is that I have so many draft crushes this year! How can I pick just one? I love all top three running backs – Clemson’s Travis Etienne, Alabama’s Najee Harris and North Carolina’s Javonte Williams. I’m also quite fond of some middle-round running backs like North Carolina’s Michael Carter and Memphis’ Kenneth Gainwell. I even like a couple of offensive linemen in Alabama’s Landon Dickerson and Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Quinn Meinerz. Of course I like Florida weapon Kyle Pitts, but I won’t pick him because he’s a Top 10 prospect. The Bucs have no shot at drafting him without trading their entire draft to move up like Mike Ditka did for running back Ricky Williams in New Orleans in 1999.

NFL draft: If Zach Wilson goes to New York Jets, here's what he joins

In less than three weeks, Zach Wilson’s life will forever change when he is taken in the 2021 NFL draft as an expected early first-rounder.
The prevailing belief is that Wilson, the former BYU and Corner Canyon High quarterback, will be headed to the New York Jets with the No. 2 overall pick (the draft begins April 29 and ends May 1), especially after the Jets recently traded away their starting quarterback from the past three seasons, Sam Darnold.

If Wilson ultimately heads to New York, what awaits him with the Jets? New York is coming off a 2-14 season and last had a winning record in 2015. It’s been more than a decade since the franchise last made the playoffs, when it lost in the AFC conference championship in back-to-back years in 2009 and 2010.

Dolphins' 2021 NFL draft options at RB: Najee Harris at No. 18 or wait?

MIAMI -- Since the moment Alabama running back Najee Harris leaped over a Notre Dame defender en route to a 53-yard run during January's Rose Bowl, Miami Dolphins fans have been dreaming of the 6-foot-2, 232-pound playmaker wearing aqua on Sundays.
There has been plenty of debate about the Dolphins' No. 6 pick in the 2021 NFL draft, which is expected to be a pass-catcher with LSU's Ja'Marr Chase, Alabama's DeVonta Smith and Florida's Kyle Pitts as Miami's most likely options.
But let's focus on running backs, which could be a target for the Dolphins' other top picks at No. 18 as well as two second-round picks (Nos. 36 and 50).

Bucs NFL Draft Target: Running Back, Najee Harris (Alabama)

Columbus Dispatch-USA TODAY Sports
Running back is a polarizing position when it comes to first round draft picks. On one hand, you get them for five years while (hopefully) helping solidify an offense with a player that can carry the ball, catch out of the backfield, and pick up blitzes to help protect your quarterback. On the other hand, you have a position that has devalued rapidly over the years, they don’t get any money in free agency - and if they do it typically isn’t from the team that drafted them - and you have a cycle of incoming backs placed into a rotation of other backs and coaches will “ride the hot hand.”

Last week brought the big quarterback showcase (Zach Wilson and Justin Fields) ahead of the 2021 NFL Draft, which starts in Cleveland on April 29. This week we put the focus on a bit of offense, and a bit of defense.
Perhaps one of the strongest position groups in the draft is among cornerbacks. Each of this week's quartet -- Patrick Surtain III, Jaycee Horn, Greg Newsome II and Caleb Farley -- could go in the first round, certainly by the end of the second round. Surtain and Farley both opted out of their Pro Days, but their bodies of work needed no padding (Farley sat out the season over virus concerns).
