WKU grad learns the value of personal connections in the business world

Alicia Carter
Wednesday, April 21st, 2021
Anthony U. Itzol, a senior from Bowling Green who studies International Business, learned early on that making personal connections is vital in the business world.
During his senior year of high school and while attending his younger sister’s school music performance, Itzol found himself in a conversation with his dad’s boss about college and career plans.
When his dad’s boss asked what was next after high school, Itzol started naming off large universities in the southern region of the U.S.- schools he was thinking about attending. When asked why he wanted to move so far away and go to a big school, Itzol explained that he was thinking about studying marine biology, something he had an interest in from the time he was young. He said his dad’s boss pressed a little more by asking him what his plans were for after college. ....

Accountants in Kentucky and Tennessee can earn up to four hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits through the WKU CPE Program for Accountants sponsored by the Gordon Ford College of Business Department of Accounting.
The program will take place on Wednesday, May 26, via Zoom. The half-day program begins at 8 a.m. and ends at noon.

E'town man to celebrate 100 years of life | Local News

Wayne Hayes remembers a time when he would drive past a sign on what now is North Mulberry Street in Elizabethtown that declared the city’s population to be 4,500.
With the population now estimated to be more than 30,000, a great deal of growth and change have occurred throughout Hayes’ life. Despite all the transformations that have happened around him, Hayes has maintained some key values, including a strong faith, a dedication to family and a devotion to service for his community and his country.
On April 13, Hayes will celebrate 100 years of life. Although simply being a centenarian is quite the achievement in itself, the way Hayes has filled those 100 years – from fighting in World War II to maintaining a local business for three decades to finding new love in his golden years – is much more remarkable. ....

Fiduciary Advocates Urge SEC to Take 'Best Interest' Out of Reg BI

Fiduciary Advocates Urge SEC to Take Best Interest Out of Reg BI
A new report from the Institute for the Fiduciary Standard urges the SEC to “rebrand Reg BI as a ‘New Suitability’ standard for broker/dealers” to clarify that brokers’ product recommendations are different from best interest fiduciary advice.
As the Securities and Exchange Commission Chair nominee Gary Gensler awaits his Senate confirmation process, critics of the agency’s Regulation Best Interest acknowledged that new rulemaking would be necessary to enact the changes they sought, according to participants on a conference call hosted by the Institute for the Fiduciary Standard this week. ....

Historic home owners say they have not been contacted about Confederate marker's relocation

Standing at 1320 Park St., the stately Federal-style columns of the Grider House, hidden mostly from view by thick foliage, are home to a largely forgotten history.
The home, named for Union Army Col. John Hobson Grider – no known relation to the Hobson House – is said to have been where the provisional government of the Confederacy met when it briefly occupied and named Bowling Green as its state capital during the Civil War.
According to its current residents and homeowners, Dr. Gordon Newell and Regina Newell, the effective Confederate state Capitol building hosted notable names like John C. Breckinridge – the native Kentuckian and Confederate general who was once the 14th vice president, serving under the embattled one-term President James Buchanan and the predecessor of President Abraham Lincoln. ....
