The court s decision could spark a series of other legal challenges by women living in other Mexican states.

Opinion: European treaty against women′s violence ′saves lives′ | Opinion | DW

Look and act - Prevent violence against women
Prevention of violence is first step
The Convention provides for a victim-centered approach designed to make women safer, by preventing violence, protecting victims and holding perpetrators accountable. Importantly, it also underscores that the effective prevention of violence against women requires states to improve gender equality, by tackling the deeply entrenched inequalities and stereotypes concerning the roles of women and men in society.
The implementation of the Istanbul Convention has already yielded positive outcomes. It has led to an increased number of shelters for victims of violence in Albania, Finland, Montenegro, Portugal and Turkey. Specialized support services for victims of sexual violence have also been set up in Austria, Denmark, Finland, Portugal, and recently Spain. ....

How to negotiate more successfully as a woman
Glass ceilings and gender equality
In 2015, the German legislature passed a law mandating a 30% quota for women on supervisory boards of listed companies. Aiming further down the corporate ladder, this past January, the German cabinet greenlit a bill to force more gender equality on company executive boards after a voluntary system didn t bring about enough change.
If approved, the law will make it mandatory for listed companies to appoint one female board member if it has at least four members. Companies that the government has a majority stake in will be held to even tougher standards. Currently, only around 16% of DAX board members are women. ....

Violence against women rife
Lack of protection
Silvia Trujillo was born in Uruguay and grew up in Argentina, but she said she first became a feminist in Guatemala. She moved there 20 years ago and has since worked both as a sociologist and the editor of
La Cuerda, an internet portal with a feminist view on reality, according to its website.
We live here in a state that is incapable of protecting its women and where the political will to do so is lacking. This is compounded by the way society is so pervaded by machismo that violence against women is often not reported, she said. ....

Structural racism and vaccine access: The German data gap | Science| In-depth reporting on science and technology | DW

Structural racism and vaccine access: The German data gap
In the UK and the US, white people are being vaccinated more quickly than others. It might well be the same in Germany ― but statistics based on ethnicity are not collected here. Is it time to close the data gap?
The US and the UK are far ahead of Germany in terms of number of vaccines administered - but data from these countries reveal deep inequalities.
Ensuring equal access to the vaccine isn’t going well ― even within the rich countries who have most of it. As of April 14,the vaccination rate for white people in the US was 1.6 times greater than that for Black people and 1.7 times higher than that for Hispanic people. A similar trend can be seen for ethnic minorities in the UK, with people identifying as Black African or Black Carribean being significantly less likely to have received a first dose of the vaccination than white people, according to a government report. Questions have arisen as to whethe ....
