But coronavirus stands to have longer-lasting effects on drinking habits: Consumers are trading up to more expensive varieties, realizing that they can get more for their money by buying booze at a retailer instead of a restaurant or bar. Economists have said that the pandemic is exacerbating inequality around the world.
