German junior coalition party urges 'third-state' model for refugees

Despite massive international criticism of the UK government's planned asylum pact with Rwanda, some German lawmakers from the liberal-conservative Free Democrats (FDP) are calling Germany to strike a similar deal. "I think it would be right for us to consider carrying out asylum procedures in third countries outside Europe," the leader of the FDP's faction in German parliament, Christian Dürr, told the Augsburger Allgemeine newspaper. Dürr said he is not in favour of flying irregular migrants w

The IMF and the African Development Bank (AfDB) both forecast GDP growth at 3.8% in Africa this year although the two institutions define the states making up Africa differently.* Whichever formula is used, average incomes on the continent are barely growing in per capita terms (see accompanying graphs).

The Rwanda Bill won't stop people backing Reform – Tory voters have had enough

At long last, the Rwanda Bill is passed, and Rishi “enough is enough” Sunak is pledging to get “multiple flights a month” off the ground, deporting illegal migrants within 10-12 weeks. Maybe. Some see the snail’s pace at which the Bill crawled along as a belated acknowledgment that those like Suella Braverman and Robert Jenrick, who warned that it would only lead to a handful of symbolic flights, were right all along. Rwanda's Hope Hostel once housed young genocide survivors. Now it's ready for migrants from Britain

Rwanda says it's ready to receive migrants from the United Kingdom after British Parliament this week approved a long-stalled and controversial bill seeking to stem the tide of people crossing the English Channel in small boats by deporting some of them to the East African country. There is even a place ready and waiting for the migrants — a refurbished Hope Hostel in the vibrant upscale neighborhood of Kagugu, an area of the Rwandan capital of Kigali that is home to many expats and several international schools. Rwanda government's deputy spokesperson Alain Mukuralinda told The Associated Press on Tuesday that authorities here have been planning for the migrants' arrival for two years.
