Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Emma Jean Walls Price was called to her heavenly home on Sunday, February 21, 2021.  “Well Done, Good and Faithful Servant!” (Matthew 25:21).  
 
Born in Chattanooga on Sept. 20, 1944, to Jimmie and Geneva Walls, Emma lived a life of faith, love and graciousness. 
 
 
Emma graduated with honors in 1962 from Howard High School and was awarded an academic scholarship to Tuskegee University where she earned her honors Bachelor of Science in Biology and was initiated into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She furthered her education at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, earning a Master of Science with honors in Counseling.  Ms. Price dedicated forty years to the Chattanooga Public School System and Hamilton County Schools, teaching middle school science for seventeen years and serving as a middle and high school ....

“And so this is Christmas,” sang John Lennon. This Christmas season was different for everyone. Events we have come to expect, those traditions we count on to make Christmas Christmas were not a part of Christmas 2020. With all our downtown events canceled, churches, restaurants and other venues closed or limited, we were left to make the best of a bad situation. And so this was Christmas 2020.
I decided to celebrate Christmas in New Mexico with my sister. My brother-in-law Rex Gray passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack in August. Spending the holiday with my closest remaining relative was the right thing to do. We talk on the phone every morning, but it had been over a year since we had seen each other. I was unable to make Rex’s memorial service in October and felt bad about that. ....

Appeals Court Judge Tiffany Chase administers the oath of office Monday, Dec. 28, to Justice Piper Griffin, newly elected to the Louisiana Supreme Court. Griffin’s formal investiture will take place late in January.
As a newly elected Louisiana Supreme Court Associate Justice, Piper Griffin takes the bench on Monday (Jan. 4), she said she is humbled by the overwhelming support from the community. “I want to thank the people of New Orleans for the opportunity to be of service and the trust they place in me for such an important position,” Griffin said. 
Joined by her mother Betty Griffin, a retired Charity Hospital nurse; sisters Kaci and Lisa Griffin; nephew Keenan Fortenberry; and ministers Rev. Samuel Gibbs Jr. and Pastor Calvin Woods Jr., Griffin took the oath of office Monday (Dec. 28). Her formal investiture, a public event, is tentatively scheduled for Jan. 26, COVID-permitting.   ....
