Register for Education and Civil Rights for the New Decade Virtual Conference


LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 3, 2021)  The University of Kentucky College of Education is offering a community resource on the journey for racial equity through a new conference, Education and Civil Rights for the New Decade. The virtual conference features some of the nation’s most influential thought leaders during two days of sessions, Friday, May 7, and Saturday, May 8. Through the generous support of WesBanco, the conference is free and open to all.
With more than 20 sessions to choose from, Education and Civil Rights for the New Decade will cover topics related to law and justice, K-12 education, community organization, postsecondary education and financial literacy. Continuing education credit will be provided in the K-12 education track and is planned for the law and justice track, pending approval. UK College of Education Shares Ways to Help Students Process Racial Trauma


Candice Hargons, an assistant professor in the Department of Educational, School, and Counseling Psychology, says Black students need to be heard and responded to with empathy as they process the pain of racial injustice.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 12, 2021)  As anniversaries of the tragedies that sparked nationwide protests against systemic racism approach, faculty members with the Education and Civil Rights Initiative in collaboration with the NAACP, based in the University of Kentucky College of Education, are sharing information to aid school personnel in helping students process racial trauma and feel supported when speaking out on the journey for racial equity.

Innovative Doctorate Focuses on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Leadership Development


LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 2, 2021) A new, innovative doctoral specialization at the University of Kentucky College of Education will prepare scholars for diversity, equity and inclusion senior leadership roles in higher education settings and related fields. The program, pending approval by the UK Faculty Senate, will begin Fall 2021.
The diversity, equity and inclusion concentration of the Ph.D. was created in collaboration with INSIGHT Into Diversity, a magazine and online news source covering higher education. Scholars enrolled in the diversity, equity, and inclusion concentration will have the opportunity to apply for scholarship funding from INSIGHT Into Diversity.
