FRANKLIN Concerned about the future of voting rights in the United States, local Democrats have been participating in demonstrations to raise awareness, as well as advocate for passage of the S.1 For the People Act of 2021 by the U.S. Senate.
Organized by the Franklin Democratic Town Committee (FDTC), activists demonstrated at the front of the Franklin Stop & Shop plaza on July 22 and July 27, and again on Tuesday, holding signs that said  Defend Voting, Pass S.1 For the People, End Voter Suppression, No S.1 Vote, No Recess and Protect Voting Rights.” 
Many of the responses were waves or thumbs-up, said FDTC member Sue Cass. But there were also several middle fingers and thumbs-down. ....

The Plan to Resume Federal Student-Loan Repayments in October Just Hit an Obstacle

One of the handful of organizations that has a contract to service federal student loans announced today that it would not renew that agreement at the end of the year.
For some politicians, the announcement from the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency, known as Pheaa, is good news for student borrowers who, they say, have been misled and mistreated by the company.
“Millions of loan borrowers can breathe a sigh of relief today knowing that their loans will no longer be managed by Pheaa, an organization that has robbed untold numbers of public servants of debt relief and was recently caught lying to Congress about its atrocious record of fines and penalties,” Sen. Elizabeth A. Warren, Democrat of Massachusetts, said in a news release. ....
