Founding Fathers and Winged Fairies Battle Demons and British Troops in Historical Fantasy Revolutionary War Novel

Daniel Boone faces down a Wampus Cat in "Mountain Folk."
“Mountain Folk,” a historical fantasy novel about the Revolutionary War by John Hood, celebrates America’s founding and its iconic heroes by blending real-life characters and events with elements of magic, myth, and mountain folklore.
The book, set for release on June 8 of this year, is an epic fantasy in the genre that brought readers “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings.” And, while it features Revolutionary War exploits by real-life historical figures such as Daniel Boone, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Alexander Hamilton, it incorporates demons, dwarfs, winged fairies, armored pixies, and a monstrous, blue-scaled serpent.

Send Out the Search Party! We Looked for Woke Corporations, and Couldn't Find Any

Send Out the Search Party! We Looked for Woke Corporations, and Couldn’t Find Any
Apr 27, 2021
Inside the clown car otherwise known as the U.S. Senate, more politicians are blaring the “get woke go broke” mantra at companies daring to speak out on issues such as voter suppression and social justice. First coined by the author John Ringo in 2018, the “woke” catcall has festered from time to time, as supposedly woke corporations like NASCAR made it clear that they heard the clangorous demands for racial justice that roared across much of the U.S. last summer.
But there’s one problem with all the accusations that woke corporations threaten to weaken America and destroy society: As with cancel culture, It’s not a thing.

we shall rise – Moe Lane

A bit of a mouthful, but I’ve been waiting for WE SHALL RISE to drop for a while. It’s a collection of short stories set in John Ringo’s Black Tide Rising zombie apocalypse series, and should be a bunch of fun. Do
I want to write a story set in it?
Maaaaaybe…

New Books: 2 March 2021

(Simon & Schuster/Saga 978-1-9821-4806-5, $27.00, 416pp, formats: hardcover, ebook, March 2, 2021)
Science fiction thriller about artificial intelligence, sentience, and labor rights in a near future dominated by the gig economy.
There’s a great deal going on in
Machinehood, from Divya’s sophisticated critique of a post-privacy gig economy to her evident expertise in AI systems, ‘‘weak AI’’ digital assistants, nanotech, and prosthetic body modifications. Individually, none of the tech extrapolations are particularly new, and Divya on occasion lapses into clichéd dialogue (‘‘this is so much bigger than us’’), but the economy she describes is sharply imagined and convincingly detailed, and she artfully balances the cybertech thriller chapters involving Welga and the more character-oriented narrative of Nithya and her family, eventually weaving them together in a conclusion both suspenseful and ingenious, if a bit idealistic given the problems and complexities she’s already saddled us with. But then, idealism might be something we need a bit more of these days.
