Dublin-based medical device business receives €6m investment

Vasormum specialises in developing devices used to close arterial punctures in vascular, cardiology, radiology and neuro-radiology procedures.
It has developed and markets the CELT Arterial Closure Device (ACD), which is used to close femoral artery punctures.
The CELT ACD is based on a patented platform technology, which was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2017 and has been used in over 70,000 patients to date.
BGF’s investment will be used to accelerate the commercial roll-out of CELT ACD in the United States and to invest in new product development.
Vasorum is led by its founder and chief executive Dr Jim Coleman and serial entrepreneur Chas Taylor. Mr Taylor is also a former senior executive of med tech company Bard.

Revealed: Glasgow councillors with highest and lowest attendance rates

One in ten Glasgow councillors failed to attend more than 60% of all committee meetings they were expected at last year.
Nine out of 85 councillors had an attendance rate of 60% or below in 2020. And five of them failed to attend at more than half of the meetings they were required at.
The Glasgow Times obtained records of attendance for all 85 city councillors over the last three years.

Did ex-NC judge help ignite 'human bomb' at Capitol? Critics say he should be punished
Michael Gordon, The Charlotte Observer
Feb. 7—Mark Martin retired as chief justice of the N.C. Supreme Court in 2019 with a reputation as a legal moderate and consensus-builder who worked to protect the integrity of the courts.
But now the 57-year-old Republican is under attack for his role as an informal legal adviser to Donald Trump during the defeated president's unprecedented two-month fight to remain in office.
In a Jan. 31 story, the New York Times said Martin, now dean of a Christian law school in Virginia, was at the center of two of the most controversial legal maneuvers in Trump's failed effort to overturn his loss to now-President Joe Biden.

Second Glasgow councillor forced out for missing six months of meetings

A second Glasgow councillor has been forced from office for failing to attend any council meetings - including virtual sessions - for six months.
Jim Coleman, a former Labour group leader, had been a Glasgow City councillor since its inception in 1995.
He had previously served as a councillor under the old District and Regional system since 1988.
The Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 states that a member of a local authority loses office if they do not attend a meeting at least once in any six-month period.

Jim Coleman: Labour councillor loses role after not attending online meetings

Jim Coleman worked as a councillor in Glasgow for over three decades
A SCOTTISH councillor who served his community for more than three decades has lost his job because he struggled to work his computer.
Jim Coleman represented the Baillieston ward for Labour, but has now been “sacked” because of strict legislation that means any councillor who fails to attend a meeting for six months is automatically removed from their position.
Coleman is a member of six committees but has not attended any since at least last July.
However, a Labour source told Glasgow Live that Coleman’s problems with the “council-issued technology” were to blame for his departure.
