DALLAS – Dallas-based Greenhouse Outpatient Center and its parent company, American Addiction Centers, agreed to damages of $146,613 and provide other relief to settle a pregnancy discrimination lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the federal agency announced today.
The Dallas rehabilitation center had granted the pregnant employee, a behavioral health technician, a 30-day leave of absence for childbirth. After the employee delivered the baby by caesarean section, which requires abdominal surgery, the employee’s doctor indicated she needed eight weeks to recover before returning to work. Human Resources, however, told the employee her position could not be held open beyond the 30 days, and her employment was terminated, acc ....

Texas Medical Practice to Pay $375K in Religious Discrimination, Retaliation Case

A Texas-based medical practice that federal officials say subjected employees to religious discrimination and retaliation will pay $375,000 to settle the case following a judgement by a federal court.
Tim Shepherd M.D., P.A. and Bridges Healthcare, P.A., doing business as Shepherd Healthcare, a medical practice in Flower Mound, Texas, will furnish other relief as well, according to the Equal Employment Opportunity.
According to the EEOC’s suit (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission v. Tim Shepherd M.D., P.A. and Bridges Healthcare, P.A., Civil Action No.4:20-cv-60-SDJ), Shepherd Healthcare conducted mandatory meetings each morning that involved prayer and a reading of Biblical verses, including discussion of how those principles applied to the employees’ personal lives. ....
