U.S. Capitol Police abruptly relocated the break area for thousands of National Guard members providing security in Washington, D.C. off Capitol grounds today and into a crowded garage with limited restroom facilities, prompting an outcry from some troops.
Roughly 26,000 Guard members were rushed into D.C. to support federal law enforcement for Wednesday s inauguration of President Joe Biden after a violent riot on Jan. 6 led to a breach of the Capitol. ....

Lawmakers voice anger after National Guard reportedly kicked out of Capitol, sent to parking lot

The Guard will now be allowed to rest in the US Capitol Visitor Center, the guardsman said.
The change comes after thousands of National Guardsmen were moved to a parking garage after they were told they could no longer use space within the US Capitol Complex, including areas like the cafeteria of a Senate office building, as a rest area, multiple Guardsmen told CNN.
Prior to Thursday morning, several areas throughout the Capitol Complex were designated as authorized rest areas where members of the Guard could take breaks from their shifts protecting Capitol. By Thursday morning, all those areas had been cleared out and their designations removed, the Guardsmen said. ....

National Guard troops allowed back into U.S. Capitol after being 'banished' to parking garage

The photos showed Guardsmen resting between 12-hour shifts crowded together on the ground with some resting their heads against cement pillars.
Guardsmen were told they could no longer access areas of the Capitol complex, including a Senate office cafeteria that had been their rest area while protecting the building, Politico reported.
“We honestly just feel betrayed,” one Guardsman told the news outlet. “After everything went seamlessly, we were deemed useless and banished to a corner of a parking garage.”
On Thursday afternoon, Capitol Police asked the National Guard to relocate the troops who had been resting in the Capitol in between shifts, National Guard Bureau spokesman Maj. Matt Murphy told CBS News. ....
