Marcia Fudge is leaving the U.S. House. And several candidates are clamoring for her seat in a comfortably liberal district stretching from Cleveland to Akron. 
But of all the candidates who have declared their candidacy, only one is from Summit County. 
Her gerrymandered district one of two majority-minority Ohio districts protected under the Voting Rights Act of 1965  slides along Interstate 77 capturing much of Cleveland, its eastern suburbs, a western portion of Akron and about 30 cities, towns and villages along the way. ....

(Washington) - Now that Marcia Fudge has been confirmed, and sworn in as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, what happens next for her old seat in the U.S. House of Representatives?
First, constituents in the 11th District will still be able to receive Congressional services. Fudge s staff will stay on in the same offices until her successor is chosen.
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine will have to schedule both a special primary and general election, with the winner taking over the 11th District seat. The district is heavily Democratic, and so far, only Democrats have announced their intentions. ....

Senate confirms Rep. Marcia Fudge as President Biden’s Housing and Urban Development Secretary

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Senate on Wednesday voted to confirm Ohio’s Rep. Marcia Fudge as President Joe Biden’s Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Secretary in a 66 to 34 vote. The Warrensville Heights Democrat will be the first woman to lead HUD in more than 40 years and the second Black woman in history to lead the department.
As HUD Secretary, Fudge has pledged to help make the dream of homeownership a reality for more Americans by ending discriminatory practices in the housing market, and ensure that fair housing rules open the door for families, “especially families of color who have been systematically kept out in the cold across generations, to buy homes and punch their ticket to the middle class.” ....
