March 17 (UPI) U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the alliance with South Korea is strong and ready to face challenges amid the latest warnings from North Korea, during his first official visit to the country where he also offered condolences for the victims of the Atlanta shooting late Tuesday.
Blinken arrived in Seoul on Wednesday for his first visit with U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin. The Biden Cabinet members are in South Korea for their first ministerial 2+2 meeting in the country, the first security consultative meeting since the Obama administration. ....

(Bloomberg) At least eight people were killed in shootings at three Asian massage parlors in the Atlanta area, sparking questions about how the U.S. can curb the discrimination and violence against Asians that has escalated during the coronavirus pandemic.
Police arrested Robert Aaron Long, 21, in connection with all three incidents. Atlanta area authorities said at least six of the eight were Asian women, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. A motive wasn’t immediately known. ....

Top US diplomat slams North Korea's rights condition

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — America’s top diplomat on Wednesday criticized North Korea’s human rights record and reiterated a vow to strip the country of its nuclear program, a day after Pyongyang warned Washington to “refrain from causing a stink” amid deadlocked nuclear negotiations.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in South Korea with Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin earlier Wednesday as part of their regional tour aimed at boosting America’s Asian alliances to better deal with growing challenges from China and North Korea.
“The authoritarian regime in North Korea continues to commit systematic and widespread abuses against its own people,” Blinken said at the start of his meeting with South Korean Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong. “We must stand with people demanding their fundamental rights and freedoms and against those who repress them.†....
