Oskaloosa News Recap For February 17th, 2021 - Oskaloosa News

Oskaloosa News Recap For February 17th, 2021
National and World News
The 5-year-old girl who was injured in the car crash involving then-Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid is awake from a coma.
Almost two weeks after the crash “Ariel Young is awake,” her family posted on their GoFundMe Page. They did not expand on her medical condition.
Authorities are still investigating the crash that occurred on Feb. 4 when Reid’s pickup struck two other vehicles parked on a highway entrance ramp. One of the vehicles had run out of gas and the other — which Ariel was sitting in — was there to help. The NFL is also looking into the incident.

Eagle River Watershed Council: Birds love water

The Current
Much of Colorado is breeding ground for double-crested cormorants, which don’t have fully waterproof feathers and therefore have to spend extra time preening and sunbathing. This is just one example of the importance of water to area birds.

February is National Embroidery Month — did you know? It’s also National Hot Breakfast Month and Black History Month. Observed annually on Feb. 14 is the well-known Valentine’s Day, and February 17 is National Cabbage Day.
These monthly observations can be quite fun to learn about and celebrate – perhaps with some sauerkraut on the menu. But when we saw that February is National Bird-Feeding Month, Eagle River Watershed Council staff decided that it’s timely to share some important information about our feathered friends and the role our rivers and streams play in their lives.

Today is National Cocoa Day — sweet! Chocolate really does make everything better, so I’m tickled that even in 2020, the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad year, I can celebrate something good and delicious.
My chocolaty reading recommendations include two titles for kids, who, as I happen to know, like chocolate, too. I could have included adult fiction books with a chocolate theme (of which there are many), but I decided I didn’t want to read fictional stories about chocolate; I want to eat it, and these books will make sure I do.
