Trump "totally" disagrees with election outcome, says transition of power will be orderly

US President Donald Trump said he “totally” disagrees with the outcome of the election but acknowledged there would be an orderly transition of power on January 20.
The announcement comes a day after a pro-Trump mob stormed the Capitol to halt democratic proceedings, interrupting lawmakers who were conducting a ceremonial vote to affirm President-elect Joe Biden’s win.
Some members of Congress were forced to take cover and hide, offices were looted, and the formal congressional tally of votes was put on pause for hours.
“Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th,” said Trump in a statement early Thursday morning, in a message posted by his social media director, Dan Scavino. ....

WASHINGTON (AP) â President Donald Trump for the first time acknowledged his defeat in the Nov. 3 election and announced there would be an âorderly transition on January 20thâ after Congress concluded the electoral vote count early Thursday certifying President-elect Joe Bidenâs victory.
Trumpâs acknowledgement came after a day of chaos and destruction on Capitol Hill as a mob of his supporters stormed the Capitol building and unleashed unprecedented scenes of mayhem as it tried to halt the peaceful transition of power. Members of Congress were forced into hiding, offices were ransacked, and the formal congressional tally halted for more than six hours. ....

Incoming Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer Calls For Trump To Be Removed From Office

Sen. Chuck Schumer, who on January 20 will become the Senate Majority Leader, sent out a statement saying Trump should be removed from office and the fastest way would be using the 25th Amendment.
What happened at the U.S. Capitol yesterday was an insurrection against the United States, incited by President Trump.
This president must not hold office one day longer.
The quickest and most effective way it can be done today to remove this president from office would be for the Vice President to immediately invoke the 25th amendment.
If the Vice President and the Cabinet refuse to stand up, Congress must reconvene to impeach President Trump. ....

Dow opens up 133 points as markets look beyond US Capitol siege

The major United States stock indexes opened higher on Thursday, as investors continued to look beyond the storming of the US Capitol on Wednesday by supporters of President Donald Trump.
While Wednesday’s chaos in Washington saw US stocks move off of session highs, the Dow Jones Industrial Average still managed to finish in record territory.
The 30-share index continued its advance on Thursday, jumping more than 133 points at the open of trading on Wall Street to 30,962.95.
The S&P 500 edged up 0.70 percent at the open, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index gained 1.02 percent.
Speculation abounds as to why the stock market continues to move higher in the face of Wednesday’s events. ....

Trump promises peaceful transfer of power after Congress certifies Biden win

“Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th, Trump said in the statement shared by Dan Scavino, the White House deputy chief of staff for communications. I have always said we would continue our fight to ensure that only legal votes were counted. While this represents the end of the greatest first term in presidential history, it’s only the beginning of our fight to Make America Great Again!”
Scavino shared the statement on Twitter just before 4 a.m., minutes after congressional lawmakers formally tabulated the Electoral College votes showing Biden s victory. The certification dragged into the early morning hours after the process was interrupted just an hour into debate on Wednesday afternoon when Trump supporters breached the U.S. Capitol in a chaotic and violent episode, resulting in both the House and Senate chambers having to gavel out. ....
