Presley approves $8,191,008 in broadband funds for M-Pulse Fiber

Mississippi Northern District Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley approved April 5 that M-Pulse Fiber, the broadband subsidiary of Monroe County Electric Power Association, will receive $8,191,008 from the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF) to provide broadband access to 3,881 homes and businesses in the service territory of M-Pulse Fiber.
âFolks in the service territory of M-Pulse Fiber deserve the same internet access as people living in New York, Chicago or Los Angeles. Mississippi can never move into the modern world of education, economic development, health care or quality of life if our people are forced to sit at a fast food restaurant just to get on the internet. I am bound and determined that we fix this issue, and these funds to M-Pulse Fiber are a big step forward,â he said. ....

Telecom tower companies have approached DoT for vaccination of their field teams on a priority basis, akin to frontline healthcare staff, so that they can go about their operations & maintenance work in an unhindered fashion in states seeing a surge in Covid cases.

Phone companies have sought the urgent intervention of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to ensure their essential field staff get the status of frontline healthcare workers to operate freely and be exempt from any curfew-like restrictions amid the surge in Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra and the prospect of fresh lockdowns.
They have warned that without such exemptions, telecom services field engineers won’t be able to access critical sites nor do repairs and maintenance work in Covid zones, which could cause a breakdown in mobile and internet connectivity in Maharashtra. ....

Liam Payne is to make history by performing in a special augmented reality (AR) real-time experience ahead of the 2021 EE BAFTA Film Awards.
The Strip That Down hitmaker will take part in the special AR experience, created for mobile, using EE s 5G network, ahead of the BAFTA Awards on Sunday April 11. ETSU to test emergency alert system

East Tennessee State University will test its emergency mass notification systems onÂ Tuesday at 9 a.m.
ETSUâs mass notification systems were installed in 2008, and include an outdoor warning siren system with five large speakers strategically placed on the main campus and on the VA campus.
The system also features emergency text and email messaging, desktop messaging for computers connected to the ETSU system, an alert message on the ETSU homepage and a public address system in select university buildings.
ETSUâs outdoor siren system will sound at 9 a.m. Once it begins, the alert messaging and the PA system will be activated. ....

A new study, out this week, could pave the way to revolutionary, transparent electronics.
Such see-through devices could potentially be integrated in glass, in flexible displays and in smart contact lenses, bringing to life futuristic devices that seem like the product of science fiction.
For several decades, researchers have sought a new class of electronics based on semiconducting oxides, whose optical transparency could enable these fully-transparent electronics.
Oxide-based devices could also find use in power electronics and communication technology, reducing the carbon footprint of our utility networks.
A RMIT-led team has now introduced ultrathin beta-tellurite to the two-dimensional (2D) semiconducting material family, providing an answer to this decades-long search for a high mobility p-type oxide. ....
