A printing company in Maryland saw the photo on Twitter the night of Jan. 6: an employee roaming the halls of the U.S. Capitol with a company badge around his neck. He was fired the next day.

Can you be fired for storming the Capitol? — Quartz

January 20, 2021
Of course you can.
Among the jarring images of white insurrectionists who broke into the US Capitol on Jan. 6 was a man marching through the building holding a Trump flag with his work ID badge still draped around his neck.
It didn’t take long for internet sleuths to zoom in on the badge and alert his employer, Navistar Direct Marketing, a Maryland direct mail printing company.
The company promptly fired the man and contacted the FBI, issuing a statement that “any employee demonstrating dangerous conduct that endangers the health and safety of others will no longer have an employment opportunity.” ....

U.S. Capitol riots: Free speech isn't a free pass for insurrection

As federal authorities warn of possible armed protests across the country starting this weekend, those planning to participate should know they could find themselves facing felony charges, out of work and ostracized if those protests cross the line into criminality.

“The bright line is obviously don’t assault anyone, don’t be in places you’re not legally allowed to be and don’t destroy property. Those are three clear, bright lines, said Alex Little, a Nashville-based criminal defense attorney who previously served as a federal prosecutor in Nashville and Washington, D.C. ....
