Duluth Depot open for visitors with new exhibits

With new exhibits ready, the Duluth Depot is excited to welcome visitors back.
After about nine months of closed doors, guests can once again roam the halls and check out the different exhibits. And there are two new ones to explore.
The first is a Veterans Memorial Hall Spotlight Exhibit, featuring the service men and women from St. Louis County. The free-standing, self-contained exhibit is near the VMH entrance, and is seven feet tall, four feet wide, and two feet deep! It spotlights Joseph Joe P. Gomer, a Duluthian whoh fought in World War II as a member of the first African American unit of the Army Air Corps. Gomer was part of the 99th Pursuit Squadron, a unit later nicknamed the Tuskegee Airmen. ....

The first Black pilots to serve in the United States military along with the navigators, mechanics, instructors, and other personnel who supported them are today remembered as the Tuskegee Airmen. Established in 1941, they built an impressive combat record, helped the Allies win World War II, and put the U.S. armed forces on the road to integration.
