Substation by Norfork Dam catches fire, causes outage to several NAEC members

A fire caused damage to a power substation by the Norfork Dam and an outage to over 4,000 members of North Arkansas Electric Cooperative. The cooperative is reporting a regulator is on fire in the Norfork substation, and it has also been affecting the Pineville and Sycamore Springs substations.
According to a Baxter County 911 dispatch spokesperson, several fire crews are on the scene, and motorists are asked to avoid the area north of Salesville on Arkansas Highway 177 if possible. No cause of the fire has been announced.
In the latest update on its social media accounts, NAEC reports members served by the Norfork substation will experience an extended outage lasting at least well into the night, and power cannot be restored until the regulator is replaced and any damage to the structure is repaired. ....

PINEVILLE, Ark. (KY3) - A lightning strike caused a fire to an electrical substation Sunday afternoon near the Norfork Dam in northern Arkansas, leading to thousands of power outages.
A fire broke out at the North Arkansas Electric Cooperative in Pineville, Arkansas after the lightning strike.
The fire caused thousands of power outages across northern Arkansas, impacting more than 4,000 customers throughout the day. At least 1,900 customers still had power outages into Sunday night. ....

Norfork City Council holding workshop

The Norfork City Council will hold its May workshop Tuesday at 6:30 at City Hall.
Items on the workshop’s agenda include a discussion with Jake and Melony Anderson of Norfork Adventure Supply and May 25 being named Bobby D. Hulse Day.
Under Arkansas law, city councils may use workshops may be used to discuss issues, but any official city council actions must be enacted at an official city council meeting. Norfork’s next scheduled city council meeting will be held Tuesday, May 18 at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.
