Good afternoon, Chairman Peters, Chairwoman Klobuchar, Ranking Member Portman, Ranking Member Blunt, and members of the committees. Thank you for the opportunity to appear before you today to discuss the FBI’s role and efforts leading up to and in response to the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol building. I am pleased to be here representing the dedicated men and women of the FBI’s Counterterrorism Division.
The violence and destruction of property at the U.S. Capitol building on January 6 showed a blatant and appalling disregard for our institutions of government and the orderly administration of the democratic process. The FBI does not tolerate violent extremists who use the guise of First Amendment-protected activity to engage in violent criminal activity. The destruction of property and violent assaults on law enforcement officers betray the values of our democracy. ....

FBI Identifies the Gunman Who Killed 2 Agents in Deadly Florida Shootout


Officials have identified David Lee Huber as the suspect in a shooting that killed two Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents in Sunrise, Florida on Tuesday.
The two FBI agents were killed while executing a search warrant in a child pornography case. Three other agents were also wounded. 
The FBI confirmed that the shooting suspect was David Lee Huber. Authorities said it was Huber who engaged the FBI agents in a gun battle when they arrived at the 55-year-old suspect s apartment.  
After the shootout, David Lee Huber allegedly killed himself. On Wednesday, the Broward Medical Examiner s Office confirmed that the suspect s body was already in the morgue.  ....

FBI agents shooting: 2 killed in Sunrise, Florida, hailed as 'heroes'


Two FBI agents who were killed in Florida are being praised for their heroism as investigators review what happened during the shootout.
The agents were shot while serving a warrant in a child exploitation case early Tuesday, according to the FBI. The deceased suspect was identified as David Huber, 55, a person familiar with the matter said Wednesday. 
The suspect started shooting and barricaded himself inside a residence at the Water Terrace apartment complex, according to Otishia Browning-Smith, a spokeswoman for the Sunrise Police Department. 
Authorities are investigating whether the suspect had cameras rigged at the apartment to provide an outside view of people who might be approaching at the time of the incident said the source, who is not authorized to comment publicly. The suspect died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, said a person familiar with the matter. ....
