Piqua student wins annual poetry competition

PIQUA Piqua Arts Council hosted the West Central Regional Final of the National Endowment for the Arts’ Poetry Out Loud Competition on Thursday, Feb. 11 at Edison State Community College.
As part of the competition students from four of the region’s high schools participated in reading poems. Competing were Daniel Nauseef from Chaminade Julienne High School, Hibachi Loukssi from Xenia High School, Lexi Gastelu from Piqua High School and Abigail Lay from Springfield Clark Career and Technical College. The students competed in two rounds of poetry recitation with the judges for the evening also presenting. ....

Professor Erica Goldberg joined the University of Dayton School of Law faculty in August 2017. Prior to her appointment, she was an assistant professor at Ohio Northern University Law School. She also taught Legal Research and Writing as a Climenko Fellow and Lecturer on Law at Harvard Law School and Civil Procedure, Criminal Procedure, and Law and Religion as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Penn State Law School.
After graduating from Stanford Law School, Professor Goldberg clerked for Judge Ronald L. Gilman on the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, practiced appellate litigation at Latham & Watkins LLP, and served as a legal fellow at the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education. Professor Goldberg has helped write briefs and petitions filed before several courts of appeals and the Supreme Court. ....

Judicial Nominating Commission announces circuit judge nominees for Greenup and Lewis

The Judicial Nominating Commission, led by Chief Justice of Kentucky John D. Minton Jr., today announced nominees to fill the Circuit Court judicial vacancy for Greenup and Lewis counties. The counties make up the 20th Judicial Circuit and the vacancy is in the circuit’s Division 1.
The three nominees for the judgeship are attorneys Paul Eugene Craft of Russell, Brian Christopher McCloud of Worthington and Matthew Jackson Warnock of Ashland.
Craft is a managing partner with the general practice law firm of McGinnis Leslie and serves as the city attorney for the cities of Worthington and South Shore. He received his juris doctor from the University of Cincinnati College of Law. ....

Trio of names in hat for judge


The 20th District consists of Greenup and Lewis counties.
Brian McCloud, of Worthington, Paul Craft, of Russell, and Matthew Warnock, of Ashland, are the three nominees.
McCloud is the District Court judge for Greenup and Lewis counties. He received his juris doctor from the University of Louisville Louis D. Brandeis School of Law, according to kentucky.gov.
Craft is a managing partner with McGinnis Leslie, a general practice law firm. He serves as the city attorney for both Worthington and South Shore in Greenup County. Craft received his juris doctor from the University of Cincinnati College of Law.
Warnock is with Warnock & Warnock and serves as an assistant county attorney for Greenup County. He received his juris doctor from the University of Dayton School of Law. ....

ALTON Simmons Hanly Conroy has announced the promotion of four attorneys to shareholder.
The firm’s new shareholders are Holly Nighbert, Brendan A. Smith, Gary DiMuzio and Sanford “Sandy” Smokler. Nighbert and Smith are based in the firm’s Alton office, while DiMuzio and Smokler work out of New York.
