NEW JERSEY – The FBI arrested two men and charged them with assault against U.S. Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick, a New Jersey native who died after he responded to the Jan. 6 riots and takeover attempt at the U.S. Capitol. One of the men was arrested Sunday getting off a plane at Newark airport.
Sicknick, who grew up in South River, was among several officers who were assaulted in connection to the riot. Five rioters died in the takeover. ....

SOUTH RIVER–Carrying a Thin Blue Line flag and wearing running shoes, Florida pre-teen Zechariah Cartledge ran one mile to honor South River native, U.S. Capitol Police Officer Brian D. Sicknick.
Sicknick died from wounds received in the line of duty while defending the U.S. Capitol from an attack on Jan. 6. He returned to his division office and collapsed. He was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 7, according to a prepared statement from the U.S. Capitol Police. ....

U.S. Representatives Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12) and Don Beyer (VA-8) introduced bipartisan legislation to honor United States Capitol Police Officer Brian D. Sicknick, who died from wounds received in the line of duty while defending the U.S. Capitol from attack on Jan. 6.
Beyer, who represented Sicknick in the House, and Watson Coleman, who represents much of Sicknick’s family, introduced a bipartisan House Resolution honoring Sicknick’s life and sacrifice as well as a bipartisan bill to posthumously award him a Congressional Gold Medal on Jan. 28. ....

Some national veterans organizations have vowed to remove members who were charged in the Capitol riots, taking a stand against the violent attack last week.
A handful of veterans organizations told CNN they are actively checking their membership lists for veterans who have come up in the news. Organizations like the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and AMVETS said they also plan to revoke memberships of those found guilty of illegal acts or violence. ....

Some national veterans organizations have vowed to remove members who were charged in the Capitol riots, taking a stand against the violent attack last week.
A handful of veterans organizations told CNN they are actively checking their membership lists for veterans who have come up in the news. Organizations like the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and AMVETS said they also plan to revoke memberships of those found guilty of illegal acts or violence.
“We believe that our members have a very sacred right to protest,” Dan Clare, a spokesman for DAV, told CNN. “They fought and sacrificed to protect that freedom, but when protesters cross the line and commit illegal acts, especially in the nation’s capitol, we found it to be abhorrent.” ....
