ALTHOUGH a General Election galvanises readers into action, a local election can be just as demanding. Existing and potential politicians make promises, produce denials and attack opponents. Once an election is over some successful candidates continue to use the paper to keep readers informed of policies and local arguments, while others fade into obscurity. On a national level our local MPs were unusually quiet, although MEP Geoffrey Bloom appeared in print on 11 occasions. As the year progressed, City of York Council leader James Alexander came in for special comment as it was alleged he managed to get letters printed almost on a daily basis. Not quite so, although post-election he was exposed on 27 occasions, with 12 published before he was elected leader of the council. Your Letters: Feb. 23, 2021 Reader Submissions The good ole days A month into Biden s presidency, and I ve yet to read, hear or see some crazy, alternative-fact-based, hateful, anti-social, twisted-reality activity coming out of the White House. I kinda miss it. I knew that every day there would be some new controversy, factless tweet, insult or harmful policy spewed out by Trump’s regurgitation of the Fox News puppet masters. It was like watching cage fighting, waiting to see the violence, knowing any second it would happen. Now, nothing. The withdrawals are unbearable. Now we have boring ole man Joe stumbling his way around the White House, waiting to croak any day while forgetting where his desk is. A man Republicans said was too old and decrepit to fulfill the office of President. A man with the beginnings of dementia. A man who would lose his debate with Trump so badly while wiping drool off his chin. ....
