PARMA, Ohio Nursing homes are the frontline of the pandemic in Ohio where nearly 4,000 residents have died from COVID-19. That’s why last week the state started vaccinating seniors and staff members.

and Lt. Governor Jon Husted visited Ohio nursing facilities across the
state Friday to watch the administration of the first COVID-19 vaccines
in the nation in long-term care facilities as part of a new partnership.

Ohio COVID cases top 600,000; first nursing home residents get vaccine

The scene at Crown Pointe Care Center on the Northwest Side played on a video monitor while Gov. Mike DeWine spoke, catching him and other guests unaware. They belatedly applauded despite the missed cue.
“You’re No. 1 in the state,” DeWine told Meeker. “How do you feel?”
She responded, “Great.”
Geneva Dennison, wearing a sweatshirt proclaiming “LOVE,” was next.
“I’m excited to get it done,” she said after receiving the vaccine. “Thank you for doing this.”
“This is the day we have all been waiting for,” the governor said. “I can’t tell you how excited I am that today has arrived.” ....

COVID-19 vaccine on cusp of reaching Akron, but Ohio rollout hits bump

Ten nursing homes in Ohio began distributing the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine Friday, paving the way for vaccinations that will begin in earnest Monday for elderly, medically vulnerable residents who account for most COVID-19 deaths in the state.
Gov. Mike DeWine welcomed the inoculations, which included doses administered at two Stark County facilities. Shipments of the vaccine are expected to arrive in Summit County and other parts of the state next week as part of plan developed by the state in coordination with hospitals and public health officials.
“This is the day we have all been waiting for,” DeWine said. “I can’t tell you how excited I am that today has arrived.” ....
