WASHINGTON – A designated federal office would welcome and assist immigrants and refugees in adjusting to life in the United States if a legislative measure from Sen. Ed Markey proves successful.
Announced Thursday, Markey (D-MA) is set to introduce the National Office of New Americans Act alongside U.S. Reps. Grace Meng (D-NY), Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) and Jesús “Chuy” García (D-IL).
Markey s announcement comes just one week after President Joe Biden s introduction of a sweeping immigration reform proposal that includes an eight-year path to citizenship and immediate protection for the millions of undocumented individuals currently residing in the country.
